My next venture into the showbiz world came in 1966 when I became a member of a local community centre and joined the entertainment team and we put a show together at the time, which was a variety show where I played the part as a black and white minstrel which was popular of its day it used to be shown on TV but got taken off due to the so called P.C of its time, anyway back to the story, so I did this show and you can see from the photos there we all were happy memories, its amazing how much you can still remember after all that time, but it’s good that you also keep the photos of the time just to help, anyway there you go this is the start of my venture into the entertainment game.
We move on come the year 1972, March 29, I'm about to leave school, which was Shenley Court Comprehensive, in Northfield near Birmingham, and on my report my music teacher of the time who was a miss Barber wrote Leslie's work throughout the year has been excellent. I hope that he will maintain his intent in this subject in the future. Well there you go and at this time I was learning my craft in what they used to call "free&easy" these used to be in pubs and clubs of the day where you just got up and sang etc. This became a big help in me building up my confidence etc and by 1978 or there about I’d started to venture onto the Cabaret scene and getting the odd booking here and there.
